So, Slaven Bilic leaves West Ham, and David Moyes is the favourite to take the Hammers job.

But that's a potential appointment that hasn't been met with a resounding welcome from the West Ham fans that have got in contact with us today.

Will it be Moyes? Or will the likes of Ronald Koeman, Alan Pardew or Guud Hiddink be the surprise choice?

We're going to leave it here for the time being, but we'll be keeping a close eye on that London Stadium hot seat...

  2. 'Koeman is a fantastic manager'published at 12:56 GMT 6 November 2017

Former West Ham striker Dean Ashton says David Moyes "wouldn't inspire me". He's highlighted a different former Everton boss instead...

Ashton told BBC Radio 5 live: “You need somebody who’s got real inner confidence and shows that, someone like a Mancini or an Alan Pardew and is full of confidence and has been at West Ham before or even Ronald Koeman.

"I thinks got a huge amount of confidence, I know it went wrong for him at Everton but if you’re looking for somebody long term, West Ham would have taken him from Southampton at a heartbeat but suddenly just because he’s had a few bad months at Everton I would still take him.

"I think he’s a fantastic manager so I think there are managers out there it’s just yes David Moyes seems the safe option if you’re thinking about grinding out until the end of the season and safety.”

  3. What's in store for the new boss?published at 12:49 GMT 6 November 2017

So who will the new West Ham boss have to face in the coming weeks?

    • Watford on 19 November - the Hornets lost 3-2 to Everton at the weekend but are currently ninth in the table. They have lost each of their last three Premier League games, after losing just one of their previous eight under Marco Silva this season.

    • Leicester City on 24 November - currently 12th in the table on 13 points, the Foxes have enjoyed a healthy revival since Claude Puel took charge last month.

    • Everton on 29 November - also in a bit of a pickle regarding managers, Everton's win against Watford at the weekend was their first under caretaker boss David Unsworth. David Moyes has also said he'd be open to a return to Goodison Park, so which dugout will we see the Scot in?

Kevin Logan: I'm sorry but West Ham fans thinking they are "above" the likes of David Moyes are close to delusional.

Joel Newall: Shame players aren't held to the same standards. Bilic gave everything and the 'team' didn't do their bit! He deserved better.

Double O Negative: Genuinely laughing at West Ham fans saying they should target a big name manager like Hiddink. More likely to be Redknapp.

  5. Who's in the mix?published at 12:29 GMT 6 November 2017

So who do the bookies reckon will replace Slaven Bilic as West Ham boss?

David Moyes is the overwhelming favourite, but there are a few surprise names knocking around.

Alan Pardew, Roberto Mancini, Carlo Ancelotti and Simone Inzaghi are also in the mix... as is former Everton manager Ronald Koeman.

Who next for West Ham? Is David Moyes the man for the job?

    Here's what you think...

Brandon Miner: No. Not unless you WANT relegation.

Lee Speed: His last two clubs managed: Real Sociedad: 29% win rate Sunderland: 19% win rate He won’t help us progress.

Stephen Ladley: Koeman would instantly make them better. Don’t let a bad 3 months undermine his success in England.

Peter: Moyes is definitely not welcome if we are to show any ambition at all go all out and get a top draw manager.

  7. Moyes in line for Hammers job?published at 12:24 GMT 6 November 2017

We've mentioned David Moyes' future, and BBC Sport understands West Ham already held talks with the former Everton and Manchester United manager while Bilic's future was being reviewed.

Speaking to Bein Sports on Sunday, the Scot denied there had been contact, but said he wanted to return to club management and was "interested" in the West Ham job.

Moyes said:, external "I've always said I want to go back into club management. If the right opportunity comes around, I'll be interested."

Asked specifically about West Ham, the 54-year-old said: "I am interested but at the moment that vacancy has not become available. I know what Slaven must be going through."

Alan Irvine, Moyes' former assistant at Everton, could be a candidate to join the Scot should he get the job.

  8. 'Slaven always gave everything'published at 12:17 GMT 6 November 2017

And more from David Sullivan and David Gold:

"As custodians of the Football Club it is our responsibility as a Board to do what is best for West Ham United, and we believe a change is now necessary to ensure we can begin to move the team back in the right direction.

"We see this as an exciting opportunity to appoint a quality manager to the position to inject fresh ideas, organisation and enthusiasm into a very talented squad.

"We would like to thank Slaven for his efforts and wish him all the very best in his future endeavours. He will always be welcome at London Stadium, as a former player and manager who always gave everything for the club. We would also like to place on record our sincere thanks to the team of coaches that assisted him.

"We will now focus our entire efforts on bringing in the manager we believe can get the best out of the current squad of players and steer the club towards the top half of the table as quickly as possible."

  9. 'With disappointment and heavy hearts'published at 12:16 GMT 6 November 2017

West Ham co-owners David Sullivan and David Gold have released a statement following the sacking of Slaven Bilic:

"It is with disappointment and heavy hearts that we have made the decision to relieve Slaven Bilic of his duties as West Ham United manager.

"Since joining the club in the summer of 2015, Slaven has conducted himself throughout with honesty and integrity, and shown great determination and commitment to the role.

"In his first season - our final campaign at the Boleyn Ground - he led the team to a memorable finish that no Hammers fan will ever forget, and gave us a 3-2 victory against Manchester United in our final home game there that will go down in West Ham United history.

"During the summer, the board invested heavily signing the players Slaven believed would complete the squad he needed to push the club back towards the level we had reached in his first season, and we believe we have the players capable of doing that.

"Sadly, performances and results have not been of the expected standard and, in recent weeks, we have not seen enough indication of the required improvement to give us the encouragement that things would change and we would meet our Premier League aspirations this season."

  10. Hiddink for the Hammers?published at 12:10 GMT 6 November 2017

    HiddinkImage source, Getty

Is former Chelsea, Real Madrid and Netherlands boss Guus Hiddink an option for West Ham?

Graeme Howlett, Knees Up Mother Brown editor, isn't convinced the 70-year-old would take the job:

"Are West Ham fans ever truly happy? I don't know. I saw Guus Hiddink mentioned on Twitter. Whether that's the sort of calibre of manager we could attract, I'm not convinced.

"It would have to be someone from that top tier to give West Ham fans some sort of confidence we can survive and stay in the Premier League next season."

  11. Did Bilic underachieve at West Ham?published at 12:06 GMT 6 November 2017

    Slaven BilicImage source, Getty Images

Slaven Bilic spent a reported £42m on players in the summer, including the signings of forward Marko Arnautovic from Stoke City for a club record £20m, and former Manchester United striker Javier Hernandez from Bayer Leverkusen for £16m.

However, his side have taken just nine points from 11 league matches, conceding 23 goals in the process.

They endured a poor start to last season, too, winning just two of the first seven Premier League home games after moving into London Stadium, and suffering heavy defeats by Watford (4-2), Southampton (3-0) and Arsenal (5-1).

Bilic eventually guided the club to a mid-table finish, but that was four positions lower than the former Croatia boss had managed to lift the club during his first season in charge.

  12. 'I can be proud of my work here'published at 12:00 GMT 6 November 2017

And we have word from Slaven Bilic...

Speaking to reporters as he left West Ham’s training ground today, Bilic said: “I expected it. There are no hard feelings.

“I can be very proud of my work here.

“We didn’t start this crucial season well. As in many clubs across Europe, the manager is the one who pays the price.

“It’s a very logical move. The fans were brilliant to me from the start until the end.”

Glennyboy: Moyes will see fans revolt. Got to get a big name coach til end season and then reevaluate. Thanks for some great memories Slav

Tom Cox: We should go for Gus Hiddink, look at the job he did at Chelsea two years ago.

Joseph Mirza: People forget the good job Moyes did at Everton and just think about United. Sunderland was an impossible job.

  14. 'West Ham need progressive boss'published at 11:54 GMT 6 November 2017

    MoyesImage source, Getty Images

Graeme Howlett, editor of the West Ham fans' website Knees Up Mother Brown, says David Moyes' appointment would not go down particularly well with the Hammers faithful.

"The fans seem quite unanimous in that they are not particularly keen to see Moyes come in. They would prefer to see someone more progressive," said Howlett.

"I suspect there would be an awful lot of criticism for the board, who are already under intense pressure following the move to the Olympic Stadium, which has not gone down well.

"Various reasons have been mentioned, including his record at Sunderland, where he came in at a similar position and failed to keep them in the Premier League. There was also the incident with the female reporter which has been mentioned a few times."

The only member of the West Ham coaching staff to remain is goalkeeping coach Chris Woods.

David Moyes worked with him at Everton and took him to Man Utd. He left Utd at end of season when Moyes was sacked.

Rorke's Drift: Exactly how does appointing Moyes fit with statements of the owners 'ambition'? - An ambition to bore us all to death maybe?

John Bill: Shame about Slav. Great final season at UP, but hardly any decent performances in new home. Defence is a shambles.

He might have got the boot, but Slaven Bilic's record compares favourably with his predecessors, with none having claimed more Premier League points per game.

    • Two days after a heavy defeat by Liverpool, Bilic is sacked by West Ham

  20. Not a broken man?published at 11:32 GMT 6 November 2017

We touched on it earlier, but here's what Bilic had to say after the Hammers' defeat by Liverpool at the weekend.

"The pressure mounts game by game and at this moment it is big," said the 49-year-old.

"I don't feel a broken man. On the other hand, the situation for West Ham is not good and the club is above every individual.

"I cannot say anything negative [about the owners]. They have been supportive, very good to me in my two and a half seasons, but the situation is very difficult."
