When you watch Everton, you can see they are slowly morphing into an Italian team under Carlo Ancelotti. I never thought they would be able to get him as manager, but his arrival has been a real coup.

The Toffees are going to be an interesting team next season because they have got money and they will back Ancelotti in the transfer market. They will be targeting the top six, for starters.

So will Tottenham. After what happened to them against Sheffield United on Thursday, I would expect a reaction from Jose Mourinho's side. It will be a good battle, but I'm going for a Spurs win.

Prediction: 2-0

Well isn't this just lovely from Tottenham.

Four-year-old Spurs fan Archie is going to be a 'virtual mascot' for tonight's game against Everton and has even received a special message from his favourite player, Harry Kane.

Archie has been battling a rare form of cancer and also had to overcome coronavirus earlier this year.

Have a wonderful evening, Archie!

BBC Radio 5 Live

Former Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech says Jose Mourinho needs time to make an impact at Tottenham.

The former Czech Republic international, who played under Mourinho at Stamford Bridge, told BBC Radio 5 Live: "He is a manager that has a lot of success everywhere he has been.

"He has a lot of experience - this is something we can't judge as we are not there or see what is going on behind the scenes.

"The fact that he has been successful throughout his career, they (Spurs) should give him a chance to do that at their club."

Tottenham's Dele Alli face a late fitness test on a hamstring injury he suffered in training before tonight's home clash with Everton.

Defenders Japhet Tanganga and Juan Foyth are expected to miss the remainder of the season.

Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti is confident Richarlison will be fit despite picking up an ankle injury against Leicester.

Djibril Sidibe is available again, but Theo Walcott and Fabian Delph remain on the sidelines.

Now let's look ahead to tonight's Premier League game between Tottenham and Everton, with both sides battling for a place in Europe next season.

The Toffees have collected seven points from nine since the restart and can go above tonight's opponents with a win.

Spurs meanwhile are looking to bounce back after their 3-1 defeat at Sheffield United on Thursday. A result that led Jose Mourinho to say he was "destroyed a little bit on the inside"

Burnley

Burnley's academy has been awarded Category 1 status after it passed an audit under the Premier League’s Elite Performance Plan.

The elevation comes just three years after it was granted Category 2 status.

It means the Clarets' U23 and U18 sides will move up from the Professional Development League, with the U23s playing in the second division of Premier League 2 from next season and the U18s playing in the northern group of the U18 Premier League.

The Clarets will also have the option of entering the EFL Trophy and European competitions.

Sunday's match between Southampton and Manchester City on the BBC had an audience of 5.7 million to become the Premier League's most-watched TV game.

The peak audience across all platforms watched the Saints record a surprise win over last season's champions thanks to Che Adams' superb strike.

BBC Football's Steve Rudge said: "Having the Premier League on the BBC has been great for our viewers.

"We were delighted to deliver this game to the widest free-to-air audience."

Live football continues on the BBC on Wednesday, 15 July with the Premier League game between Burnley and Wolves (18:00 BST).

The following Sunday the FA Cup semi-final between Manchester United and Chelsea (18:00 BST) will be broadcast.

Manchester City could sign Argentina forward Lionel Messi, 33, when his Barcelona contract expires next summer if manager Pep Guardiola leaves the club.

That's the top story in today's gossip.

Earlier we touched briefly on Sunday's games in Spain's La Liga, with Lionel Messi helping Barcelona to victory at Villarreal.

Their club president has also said that Messi will "end his working and footballing life at Barcelona".

Josep Maria Bartomeu dismissed reports the Argentina international, 33, was unwilling to renew his current contract when it expires in 2021.

"We are negotiating with many players but Messi has explained to us he wants to stay," Bartomeu told Spanish network Movistar. "And so we're going to enjoy him for much longer."

Jarly Smyth: Contact Extension for Matic, was sceptical about him when he signed and wasn't a fan of his. But has won me over and is in fine form over the past 10 games or more so, a good move from Ole in my eyes.

So that's a wrap for all of today's Premier League news conferences. Let's have a quick recap of the day's best lines:

• Rodgers has 'no doubt' Leicester can reach Champions League
• Matic signs new Man Utd contract until 2023

Unsurprisingly, Graham Potter seemed very at ease in his news conference.

His squad are in a healthy place with seven points from four games since lockdown.

With a nine-point gap between themselves and the relegation zone they are all but safe, but Potter was keen to stress the need to get as many points as possible, having already equalled last season’s tally of 36.

Planning for the future will no doubt pick up pace now as top-flight football for a fourth season looks all but secured.

Brighton & Hove Albion

Brighton have no fresh injury concerns after Saturday's win at Norwich as they prepare to face champions Liverpool.

Midfielder Steven Alzate is a doubt with a groin injury and will be assessed over the next few days. Winger Jose Isquierdo is still sidelined with a knee problem that has kept him out all season.

We’re monitoring him [Alzate] daily, we’ll have to make some decisions on him in the next few days." said boss Graham Potter.

“He looked like he was struggling slightly in training today so we’ll have to see."

Two wins and one draw from four matches since the restart have boosted Brighton's survival prospects, with Premier League safety now in sight.

Saturday's win at Norwich lifted the Graham Potter's side nine points clear of the bottom three, though they face the daunting prospect of playing Liverpool and Manchester City in their next two matches.

"Overall we were delighted with the three points [at Norwich] but we know we have a lot of work to do and still have five games to go," said Potter.

"We need to get as many points as possible and keep fighting. We’re playing against the champions so it doesn’t come any more difficult than that but that’s the Premier League and we have to face it and be ready.’

‘’Whenever you play the best it’s a chance for you to test yourself, of course, and learn about yourselves.

"Liverpool have been amazing and thoroughly deserved champions. It’s great to have that level of opposition but however the points come, we take them, and we have to maintain that in the Premier League and keep fighting.’’

Sheffield United

Former Everton, Manchester City and Sunderland midfielder Jack Rodwell replaced Chris Basham late on during Sunday's draw with Burnley to make his first Premier League appearance since May 2017.

“It’s been difficult for Jack because Basham’s been up there," said Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder.

"Bash has to recognise he needs to keep his performances top drawer. Jack’s been pushing, there’s an opportunity for him to play.”

Sheffield United

Sheffield United have taken four points from their last two games and now have home games against Wolves and Chelsea - two of their rivals for European qualification.

“The attitude of the players has been outstanding," said Blades boss Chris Wilder.

"The competitive nature has come back in to us. We have to keep consistent with that approach, especially with the week we’ve got coming up with Wolves and Chelsea coming to Bramall Lane.”

On Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo: “He’s a really good guy, I’ve got a lot of respect for him. We always have a beer afterwards. He’s got some fabulous players there so it’s going to be a challenge for us on Wednesday night.”

Sheffield United

Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder has now spoken to the media too, and confirmed that his injured trio remain out.

“John Lundstram, John Fleck and Luke Freeman are out for a couple of weeks," he said. "We’re a bit stretched but we’ll get on with it and produce performances like we have done over the past week.”
