"Basically we want the week to end as quickly as possible. We want to keep all the players," he said.

"If we can add one, great. If we can't, I'm still very happy with the bunch of players we've got.

"They will get better now things will settle down, there will be a lot more focus on our season after that.

"The club are quite strong on that we want to keep all our assets and that will be the case regardless of the result."

Rangers v Galatasaray (Thurs, 19:45 BST)

Manager Steven Gerrard says his plan to add to Rangers' squad before Monday's transfer deadline could hinge on reaching the Europa League group stage.

Rangers host Galatasaray in a one-off play-off with a third group campaign in a row their target.

Gerrard is still waiting to find out whether he can sign another midfielder.

"I do think that depending on whether we qualify or not would depend on what we try to do," he said.

"I've made it pretty clear what I feel we need, but I also respect the club's position in the current climate.

"I think that's a question for people who are above me at the club. I can't really answer that right now."

  6. Leeds closing in on Cuisance dealpublished at 13:51 BST 30 September 2020

Leeds are closing in on the signing of Bayern Munich midfielder Michael Cuisance.

The 21-year-old, who has represented France at youth team level, moved to Bayern from Borussia Monchengladbach for £10m in August 2019.

But he has struggled to establish himself at the European champions and made 10 appearances last season.

Cuisance would become Leeds' fifth major signing of the summer, following their promotion to the Premier League.

They have already spent about £73m on former Real Sociedad defender Diego Llorente, ex-Valencia forward Rodrigo, former Freiburg defender Robin Koch and winger Helder Costa from Wolves.

Tottenham v Maccabi Haifa (Thurs, 20:00 BST)

    Tottenham Hotspur

Although Tottenham have signed Gareth Bale on loan, boss Jose Mourinho has made it clear he still hopes to sign an out-and-out striker to ease the burden on Harry Kane.

The England captain started on the bench in Tuesday's Carabao Cup win over Chelsea, with Erik Lamela and Steven Bergwijn filling in up front.

"I am optimistic, but more than that, the feeling that I like is that we are trying everything to do it," said Mourinho.

"You succeed, you don’t succeed - but you try to do it. I like the feeling of my club. If we succeed, great. I believe so. If we don’t [succeed], that’s football."

Tottenham are in the middle of a run where they're playing five games in 11 days. It's then the international break, with England playing three games, so Spurs boss Jose Mourinho was asked if striker Harry Kane can play three games in a row for his country.

“When Kane is fit he also should start every game for Tottenham but he didn’t yesterday [he was a 70th-minute substitute against Chelsea]," he said.

"I think this is the point when you have such a player and you want to win every match so you play him, but you just can’t do it.

"I don’t speak with Gareth [Southgate] or Steve [Holland]. I am a good friend of Steve. I didn’t speak with [Ryan] Giggs. Also the respect they must have to their player.

"Hopefully, Gareth and Steve understand what’s happened with Tottenham this week but I’m not going to ask, I’m not going to beg. I have the utmost respect for them.”

Midfielder Dele Alli has been linked with a move from Tottenham having been left out in recent weeks.

Alli, 24, started for Spurs in last Thursday's Europa League win over Shkendija but only lasted 60 minutes.

He had been left out of Tottenham's previous two matchday squads - against Southampton and Lokomotiv Plovdiv - and didn't feature in Spurs' squad for Sunday's draw at Newcastle or Tuesday's Carabao Cup win over Chelsea.

Boss Jose Mourinho said: "I cannot confirm if Dele is playing but I cannot confirm if Dele is not playing. He is being very professional. He has my respect, it is possible he plays tomorrow.”

  11. Hammers have no intention of selling Ricepublished at 13:12 BST 30 September 2020

Everton v West Ham (19:45 BST)

    Simon Stone
    BBC Sport

West Ham have no intention of selling Declan Rice before the transfer window closes on 5 October.

Rice has been the subject of numerous stories over the past few weeks, the latest around the likelihood of the England midfielder’s first club, Chelsea, making a late bid, with the possibility of two players being offered to West Ham as part of any deal.

Hammers fans are already nervous following the sale of academy product Grady Diangana to West Brom earlier this month, coupled with the fact manager David Moyes is yet to buy anyone beyond turning Tomas Soucek’s loan into a permanent £19.1m transfer.

However, it is understood there is no thought of selling Rice. Moyes has previously stated his desire to build a team around the 21-year-old and given the proximity to deadline day, it is viewed as being completely counterproductive to think about letting one of the club’s major players leave, no matter what the price, given the virtual impossibility of bringing in a like-for-like replacement.

Instead, Moyes, who will miss tonight’s EFL Cup tie at Everton as he continues to self-isolate following his positive coronavirus test, is looking to bring in players.

Strengthening his defence is viewed as a priority, with Slavia Prague’s Czech Republic international full-back Vladimir Coufal emerging as a potential signing.

Liverpool v Arsenal (Thurs, 19:45 BST)

Pep Lijnders was also asked about 17-year-old French centre-back Billy Koumetio and whether he may feature on Thursday.

“Billy has a clear pathway in the club, but he’s still at the start," added Liverpool's assistant manager.

"He’s still a very young kid with big potential. He played 60 minutes for the Under-18s, which was for medical reasons. Let’s see.”

  13. 'Jones has so much bravery, courage, self-confidence'published at 13:00 BST 30 September 2020

Midfielder Curtis Jones, 19, earned most of the plaudits after the 7-2 win over Lincoln, though, having scored twice.

“He’s the type we really like. So much bravery, courage, self-confidence, but with a constant focus to learn," said Liverpool's assistant manager Pep Lijnders.

"He’s probably one the most offensive midfielders we have. He's always the first to make a surprise move from midfield, always the first to shoot.”

  14. Neco Williams is a doer - Lijnderspublished at 12:53 BST 30 September 2020

    Liverpool

On 19-year-old right-back Neco Williams, who impressed in the last round at Lincoln and won his first two caps for Wales earlier this month, scoring the only goal against Bulgaria.

“First of all, Neco is a doer. And doers make mistakes. We don’t want safe players who don’t take risks," said Liverpool's assistant manager Pep Lijnders.

“For all young players, it’s a weakness if you get caught up in praise and criticism. He dealt with it well.

“Our players spoke with him. You can’t get caught up with praise or criticism as a young player.”

  15. Trio remain out for the Redspublished at 12:47 BST 30 September 2020

Liverpool v Arsenal (Thurs, 19:45 BST)

    Liverpool

Liverpool will still be without Jordan Henderson, Joel Matip and Kostas Tsimikas for the fourth-round tie.

Henderson has missed the Reds' last two matches since being withdrawn at half-time during the win at Chelsea and will be assessed again before Sunday's game with Aston Villa.

Matip remains sidelined with a muscular problem and won't be available again until after the international break, while Tsimikas hasn't overcome a slight thigh issue sustained in the last round against Lincoln so won't be involved against Arsenal or Villa.

On Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain's recovery from a knee injury, Lijnders said: "Ox is progressing well. He's in a good way and it's really important for him that this first phase goes smooth. But, of course, that takes a much longer time."

  16. Health and family are the most important things - Lijnderspublished at 12:40 BST 30 September 2020

Liverpool v Arsenal (Thurs, 19:45 BST)

    Liverpool

Firstly, Liverpool's assistant manager Pep Lijnders is asked about midfielder Thiago Alcantara testing positive for coronavirus.

“It shows again that health and family are the most important things in life," he said. "We wish him a speedy recovery, but I wish everyone who is fighting this virus a speedy recovery.

“We have testing in place by the Premier League and we also do private testing. We test immediately when something happens.”
