  2. Real approach for Mbappe 'disrespectful, incorrect and illegal'published at 14:51 BST 25 August 2021

    Now what about this...

PSG's sporting director Leonardo has described Real Madrid's approach for Kylian Mbappe as "disrespectful, incorrect and illegal".

Leonardo went on to say that if Mbappe wants to leave, "we will not retain him, but he will leave or stay on our terms".

"If a player wants to leave, he will leave. The club, the project, remain above everyone. But we have done everything" to convince him to stay.

  3. PSG turn down Real Madrid's Mbappe bidpublished at 14:47 BST 25 August 2021

Paris St-Germain's sporting director Leonardo says the club has turned down Real Madrid's 160m euros (£137m) bid to sign Kylian Mbappe.

Apparently the proposed fee is "not enough" for a player they want to keep.

"Our position has always been to keep Kylian, to renew his contract," Leonardo said.

The French World Cup winner, 22, joined PSG in 2017 in a transfer worth £165.7m and his contract expires in June 2022.

  4. Fifa president urges clubs to release players for internationalspublished at 14:40 BST 25 August 2021

    Perfect timing....

Fifa president Gianni Infantino has his say on the matter: “We have faced global problems together in the past and must continue to do so in the future.

"The release of players in the upcoming international windows is a matter of great urgency and importance. I am grateful for the support and cooperation from many stakeholders in the game during this challenging period.

"I am calling on a show of solidarity from every member association, every league, and every club, to do what is both right and fair for the global game. Many of the best players in the world compete in leagues in England and Spain, and we believe these countries also share the responsibility to preserve and protect the sporting integrity of competitions around the world.

"On the issue of quarantine restrictions in England, for players returning from red-list countries, I have written to Prime Minister Boris Johnson and appealed for the necessary support, in particular, so players are not deprived of the opportunity of representing their countries in qualifying matches for the Fifa World Cup, which is one of the ultimate honours for a professional footballer.

"I have suggested that an approach similar to that adopted by the UK government for the final stages of the Euro 2020 be implemented for the upcoming international matches.

"Together we have shown solidarity and unity in the fight against COVID-19. Now, I am urging everyone to ensure the release of international players for the upcoming Fifa World Cup qualifiers.”

  5. EFL clubs will not release players for internationals in red-list countriespublished at 14:35 BST 25 August 2021

Statement just landing from the English Football League, saying its clubs have taken the collective decision not to release players for international matches that are to be played in countries on the UK Government’s red list in September.

Pretty much aligns with the Premier League's position on the matter.

  7. Tottenham supporters crucial to Kane staypublished at 14:23 BST 25 August 2021

Harry Kane was right to mention Tottenham’s supporters in his statement.

Their reaction to his introduction at Wolves on Sunday was crucial in determining how this summer’s longest running transfer saga played out.

Chairman Daniel Levy was determined to hold Kane to his contract, which still has three years to run.

Yet Levy would have had a tough call to make if keeping Kane meant opposing his own fans.

But by proclaiming Kane as ‘one of our own’ at Molineux, the Tottenham fans signalled their willingness to forget the England skipper’s barely concealed desire to leave.

The can may just be being kicked down the road to subsequent transfer windows of course. After all, Kane is unlikely to become less ambitious over time.

But for now, Tottenham’s world class striker stays where he is. Levy has got his way again.

Luke: As a neutral the Kane news is great for the league. Nuno is a terrific manager overlooked because Spurs tried to get almost everyone else. Top four not beyond them in my view.

Good point, Luke. Spurs' top four chances will certainly have improved.

Straight bat from the Tottenham boss Nuno Espirito Santo to a question about Harry Kane's specific mention of "this summer" in his tweet earlier, which raised questions about future transfer windows.

"I am not worried at all," Nuno said.

"It's day by day, he's an option for tomorrow. It's the only thing, my only thought. I am not going to say what we speak about. It's between us."

  19. Postpublished at 13:51 BST 25 August 2021

Harry Kane, 28, has of course been a major target for Manchester City this summer.

City boss Pep Guardiola confirmed their interest on 6 August, but added: "If Spurs don't want to negotiate then there is nothing more to say."

But an initial bid from City - reportedly worth £100m - was turned down and Tottenham and Daniel Levy's resolve has been unwavering throughout even if the forward was late getting back off his holidays.

Kane, who played his first game of the season on Sunday, coming on as a substitute in the 1-0 win over Wolves, received a warm welcome for the Spurs fans and manager Nuno Espirito Santo has also called him "one of the best players in the world".
