The Ross County penalty was soft to say the least but when you get that wee slice of luck you have to take it. They just didn't allow Motherwell back into the game. County are in a good place at the moment

  3. 'County need to keep chipping away'published at 22:37 GMT 2 March 2022

    FT: Motherwell 0-1 Ross County

Ross County manager Malky Mackay tells BBC Sportsound: "1-0 is one of the best results you can get, especially at a tough place like this with Motherwell throwing everything at us.

"We knew there would be a lot of balls coming into our box and we stood up to it really well. We had to switch shape three or four times and we did it seamlessly.

"We're not getting carried away. Any team in this league can go on a run, those below us and those above, but we need to keep chipping away and complete the main task which is to keep Ross County in this league."

  4. 'Hearts are everything I want Aberdeen to be'published at 22:31 GMT 2 March 2022

    FT: Hearts 2-0 Aberdeen

Aberdeen manager Jim Goodwin tells BBC Radio Scotland: "Quite simply it wasn't good enough. We weren't anywhere near the levels required tonight.

"Hearts were the better team in pretty much every department, they came flying out of the blocks, we couldn't get out of our own half for the first 10 minutes.

"There was one key moment in the game at 0-0 when we had the ball in the net but the referee blows for a foul against Declan Gallagher, and having watched it a couple of times there is absolutely no foul.

"But I'm not going to try and take anything away from Hearts - they were sharper than us, had more energy, good pace, more aggressive, everything that I want my Aberdeen team to be.

"We've got a number of injuries to key players and we're putting square pegs in round holes, that the reality of the situation. It is what it is and we need to make the best of the situation.

"We need to be better, we need to improve. We've got to go to Ibrox on Saturday (against Rangers) and give a far better reflection of ourselves than we did here tonight."

  5. 'We didn't stay on the ball long enough' - Robinsonpublished at 22:24 GMT 2 March 2022

    FT: Celtic 2-0 St Mirren

St Mirren boss Stephen Robinson tells BBC Sportsound: "It's as comfortable as I've felt out of possession at Celtic Park.

"But did we pass the ball well enough to get anything out the game? No, we didn't. Ultimately it wasn't good enough in the end.

"You have to be braver, we didn't stay on the ball long enough."

  6. Neilson slams 'blatant cheating' from Fergusonpublished at 22:22 GMT 2 March 2022

    FT: Hearts 2-0 Aberdeen

Hearts manager Robbie Neilson hit out at Aberdeen midfielder Lewis Ferguson, claiming he dived to win a penalty, which was subsequently saved by Craig Gordon.

He tells BBC Radio Sportsound: "It would have been a travesty had Aberdeen scored from that penalty after the dive. It was the one blip in the game for us and it wasn't our making.

"After seeing it again, he does down easier than easy and that's the disappointing thing and I'm pretty sure that will get looked at because it's not acceptable in the game.

"The save is justice. Aberdeen created nothing in the game apart from somebody diving like that to try and get the penalty. Thankfully it didn't cost us because if they get that goal from the penalty it totally changes the dynamic of the game and they could go and get something out of the game after blatant cheating.

"I don't blame the referee, I blame the player for doing it.

"I thought it was as dominant a display as I've seen here all season."

Former Celtic goalkeeper on BBC Sportsound

    Quote Message

He's not just managing the players, Ange Postecoglou is managing the stands a bit as well, keeping everyone settled down. They just need to keep going and the two games to come against Rangers will define their season, there's no question about that

  8. 'It feels like a really good performance' - Maloneypublished at 22:15 GMT 2 March 2022

    FT: Dundee 0-0 Hibernian

Hibernian manager Shaun Maloney tells BBC Radio Scotland: "First-half, we were very dominant without being aggressive enough in that final third. We got in good positions then lacked quality and intent.

"With the sending off, the dynamic changes, but we put in a really good performance with 10 men, created chances and didn’t give up much. It feels like a really good performance.

"I saw [the red card incident] back but the angle we have isn’t great. I couldn’t really see exactly what happened. I’ll have to look at the TV footage but it completely changed the dynamic.

"We had been very dominant, but we defended very well and we carried a threat. We had an incredibly young team, especially the substitutes. I’m going to have to push them again on Saturday."

  9. Celtic keep calm and carry onpublished at 22:12 GMT 2 March 2022

    FT: Celtic 2-0 St Mirren

Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou bristles a bit at suggestions that the game won't live long in the memory.

He tells BBC Sportsound: "We dominated the ball and it's hard when the opposition sits so deep. I thought we were solid, we stayed composed and did what we had to do to wear down the opposition.

"It's how most teams set up against us and the important thing for us was not to get sidetracked by any anxiety.

"We've been unbelievable at home this year, the way we've controlled games."

Postecoglou then says he is unaware of the Rangers result, adding: "I don't care. It makes no difference to us. What's important is if we are winning games then we are in good shape."

  10. McGhee 'satisfied' with battling drawpublished at 22:08 GMT 2 March 2022

    FT: Dundee 0-0 Hibernian

Dundee manager Mark McGhee tells BBC Radio Scotland: "I was very pleased. There was a decent shape about it, a difficult night against a good team.

"Regardless of Hibs going down to 10 men, it doesn’t always make it that much easier. We haven’t got a lot of options on the bench. After Saturday, a dreadful start we made against Livingston, I’m quite satisfied.

"I wanted to find some consistency. That way you can tinker things within the team and the game, and improve things. It’s given us a platform to more or less go again with the same team."

McGhee confirms captain Charlie Adam is a doubt for Saturday's trip to Motherwell after coming off with a hamstring problem.

  11. 'Saints need to stay level headed'published at 22:01 GMT 2 March 2022

    FT: St Johnstone 0-1 Rangers

St Johnstone boss Callum Davidson is not too downhearted after a narrow loss at McDiarmid Park.

"I asked for a response from Saturday (a 3-1 loss at Ross County). Against the Old Firm you've got to keep it tight for the first 25 minutes and we gave them an easy goal. From there, the players did really well and gave it a real go.

"They played it forward and tried to do the right thing. I'm disappointed with the result but I'm also pleased with a lot of aspects of the game.

"We need to stay level headed. That attitude tonight will take us a long way and we need that for 90 minutes every week."

Ross County have now only lost one of their last seven league games, taking 12 points from a possible 21 in the process. The Staggies are now above Aberdeen in the table and only four points off fourth.

Motherwell haven’t won a Premiership match in their last nine attempts.

Former Scotland defender on BBC Sportsound

Mark McGhee would have been desperate for Dundee to regain some pride defensively - and he got that. They looked strong at the back and showed a lot of resilience, although there wasn't much in the way of excitement at either end

  15. FULL-TIME Motherwell 0-1 Ross Countypublished at 21:41 GMT 2 March 2022

Despite a late onslaught, Ross County hold on to take all three points back to Dingwall.

A huge win for Malky Mackay's side on the road - and the Dingwall side are now just four points off fourth place. What an incredible turnaround from the start of the season.

It's quite the opposite for Graham Alexander. The Steelmen haven't won in the league since Boxing Day and didn't give Ross Laidlaw a lot to do in the County goal. A worrying sign indeed.

  16. FULL-TIME Heart of Midlothian 2-0 Aberdeenpublished at 21:41 GMT 2 March 2022

Hearts move 12 points clear in third place in the Scottish Premiership as they added to Aberdeen's woes at Tynecastle.

Robbie Neilson's side took a deserved lead through John Souttar and Stephen Kingsley doubled the advantage after the interval.

Aberdeen were handed a lifeline when awarded a penalty, only for Craig Gordon to save Lewis Ferguson's spot kick.

It leaves the Dons still searching for a first league win in 2022, a run of nine games.

Jim Goodwin's hopes of leading his new club into the top six look thinner than when he took over, with his side now languishing in 10th place with just four games until the split.

And there was further concerns, as Matty Kennedy and Jonny Hayes went off injured on a bruising night for the Pittodrie side.

  17. FULL-TIME Livingston 2-1 Dundee Unitedpublished at 21:40 GMT 2 March 2022

Livingston come from behind for a fully deserved victory and they leap up to fourth place.

There was a slice of luck about the decisive goal when Ryan Edwards knocked the ball into his own net, but the Lions were by far the stronger team.

David Martindale has got his side into a lovely groove and that's 14 points from the last seven games.

Dundee United slip to sixth place.

  18. FULL-TIME Celtic 2-0 St Mirrenpublished at 21:39 GMT 2 March 2022

The league leaders remain three points clear after a hard-fought win.

St Mirren were stubborn in their approach, but second-half goals from Cameron Carter-Vickers and captain Callum McGregor sealed the win.

St Mirren boss Stephen Robinson is still searching for his first points as the Paisley side's new boss.

  19. FULL-TIME St Johnstone 0-1 Rangerspublished at 21:37 GMT 2 March 2022

Rangers battle to a narrow victory over St Johnstone to end a run of three straight draws and keep pace with Scottish Premiership leaders Celtic.

Glen Kamara coolly slotted past goalkeeper Elliot Parish after just three minutes but could not add to that against the second-bottom hosts.

Rangers struggled to create on a bumpy pitch and had Allan McGregor to thank for a good save from Jacob Butterfield.

  20. FULL-TIME Dundee 0-0 Hibernianpublished at 21:37 GMT 2 March 2022

Hibs survive Rocky Bushiri's red card early in the second half to earn a point at Dens Park.

Dundee will be frustrated not to have done more to stress Hibs' depleted defence.

Hibs coped pretty well with 10 men, but it is their ninth sending off of the season - a grim disciplinary record - and they slip a place to fifth in the table.

All in all: awful weather, muddy pitch, forgettable game.
