  1. Bye for nowpublished at 16:20 BST 4 August 2022

That's all for today then. We'll be back on Friday for the rest of the Premier League news conferences before the season kicks off this weekend, plus we'll have build-up to the opening game between Crystal Palace and Arsenal on Friday (20:00 BST).

To warm up for the big kick-off, here's some of our latest preview content:

  2. 'Young players can help immediately, some take a little longer'published at 16:15 BST 4 August 2022

Tottenham v Southampton (Sat, 15:00 BST)

    Southampton

And finally from Ralph Hasenhuttl, the Southampton manager has brought in six new players, none of which have featured in the Premier League before.

"We know the kind of players we get; they have a lot of fantasy," said Hasenhuttl. "They can help us immediately or some take a little longer.

"We have seen it in the past that some players need a year to adapt to the Premier League, some are so good that it goes quicker. We will not see all of the new players immediately from the start. They are young, they have to learn."

  3. Tella & Walcott are out for Saintspublished at 16:10 BST 4 August 2022

Tottenham v Southampton (Sat, 15:00 BST)

    Southampton

Ralph Hasenhuttl has confirmed that Southampton will be without Nathan Tella and Theo Walcott at Tottenham, while long-term absentee Tino Livramento is still on the sidelines.

“Theo Walcott has not had a pre-season so far,” Hasenhuttl said. “He is not back in training.

“Nathan Tella was also out with injury for a little while. He was training today for the first time so he will also not be available for the weekend.”

  4. Taking the knee change 'understandable'published at 16:07 BST 4 August 2022

Tottenham v Southampton (Sat, 15:00 BST)

    Southampton

On taking the knee, Ralph Hasenhuttl said: "I think it's an OK decision because, as always, everything you get used to it doesn't have the same impact and we will think about new things we can remember what this is for and so it's understandable that they want to change something."

  5. 'We'll have to be nearly perfect'published at 16:06 BST 4 August 2022

Tottenham v Southampton (Sat, 15:00 BST)

    Southampton

On last season's 3-2 win at Tottenham, Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl added: "It was a great game for sure, one of our best last season. You have to show again that you are able to compete. We will have to have to be nearly perfect to get there."

  6. Hasenhuttl undecided yet on Saints' starting keeperpublished at 16:02 BST 4 August 2022

Tottenham v Southampton (Sat, 15:00 BST)

    Southampton

On new goalkeeper Gavin Bazunu, Saints boss Ralph Hasenhuttl said: "He's a good one but I have not made a decision and you will see on Saturday.

"As you know from our history we are keen to give young players a chance in the Premier League and you know what you have to expect from them. A lot of talent and a lot of effort and in some moments even some mistakes that they have to learn from and get better."

  7. 'We're full of energy, we want to keep it on the highest level'published at 15:54 BST 4 August 2022

Tottenham v Southampton (Sat, 15:00 BST)

    Southampton

And finally from Thursday's news conferences, Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhuttl has said: "It's hard to stay consistent in the Premier League because there are teams that have spent massive money on young talented players.

"The problem for last season was that we were breaking down, but now we are full of energy and we want to keep it on the highest level possible.

"There can be one or two results that aren't going in your way and it's hard to find it back, that's the problem we had last season. But there were moments we played unbelievable football."

  8. 'We need to bring a fighting spirit & a real determination'published at 15:47 BST 4 August 2022

Bournemouth v Aston Villa (Sat, 15:00 BST)

    Bournemouth

Head coach Scott Parker says Bournemouth must embrace the challenge of the Premier League on their return to the top flight following a two-year absence.

Parker last week warned the south-coast club are "way short of where we need to be" following a quiet summer in the transfer market and a host of departures. The former England midfielder is working hard on recruitment but does not expect any arrivals in time for the weekend.

"We're going into the biggest league in the world and we worked tirelessly last year to be in this position," he said. "We need to bring a fighting spirit and a real determination on the weekend if we want to get something out of the game.

"Us as a group of players, along with the fans, the staff, the owner and everyone else, it's something we all wanted last year and we need to embrace that."

  9. Rothwell set to be out longer than Frederickspublished at 15:42 BST 4 August 2022

Bournemouth v Aston Villa (Sat, 15:00 BST)

    Bournemouth

Some more now from Scott Parker, who confirmed that Ryan Fredericks and Joe Rothwell will be out injured for Bournemouth

"Ryan picked up a calf injury when we were in Portugal (training camp) and the weekend will be too soon for him," said the Cherries' head coach.

"The same goes for Joe, which is disappointing. They're two players that we've brought in and they've both picked up knocks.

"Joe will probably be slightly longer than Ryan in terms of where he is. Ryan is moving slowly, progressing in the right way and hopefully we can get him in and around the squad over the coming weeks."

  10. 'We'd have made the same amount of changes'published at 15:28 BST 4 August 2022

Newcastle United v Nottingham Forest (Sat, 15:00 BST)

    Nottingham Forest

Forest's transfer activity has been compared to that of Fulham in 2020-21, although the Cottagers were relegated straight back down to the Championship despite a host of new signings, but boss Steve Cooper said: "We aren’t making those comparisons because we had no choice but to change the team as we are. We had five players on loan, players coming to the end of their contracts, so even if we were still in the Championship we were still going to make more or less the same amount of changes.

"It’s not about comparing to anybody else. If you look at teams that have come up recently or even come up with us, we are making signings that they already had even in the Championship, so we are catching up in some ways."

  11. 'We're being linked with all sorts - there may be some truth in'published at 15:23 BST 4 August 2022

Newcastle United v Nottingham Forest (Sat, 15:00 BST)

    Nottingham Forest

On how many more signings Forest could make, boss Steve Cooper added: "A number I don’t know. I think there will be more ins and outs, but my focus is the guys already here.

"I imagine we are being linked with all sorts of names and there may be some truth in it, but there will definitely be names where there is no truth at all."

  12. 'We want to build on last season's spirit'published at 15:18 BST 4 August 2022

Newcastle United v Nottingham Forest (Sat, 15:00 BST)

    Nottingham Forest

More from Forest boss Steve Cooper on bringing in so many newcomers after winning promotion: "Let’s not forget there is still a good core of players that are still here that were a big part of the spirit last season, which was incredible and a massive factor to our success. We want to continue to build that.

"It may look like a reshaping of the squad and I understand that, but we are very much of the narrative that we are continuing what has already been started. We’ve had some open and honest conversations already and the guys from last season have talked about how they want to embrace the new faces and it’s an objective to recreate if not improve the togetherness we had last season."

  13. ICYMI... Worrall named new Forest captainpublished at 15:14 BST 4 August 2022

Newcastle United v Nottingham Forest (Sat, 15:00 BST)

    Nottingham Forest

Homegrown defender Joe Worrall, 25, has been named the new Forest captain after their previous skipper, 34-year-old striker Lewis Grabban, left the club this summer after failing to agree a new deal.

  14. 'We're very happy with what we've done so far'published at 15:11 BST 4 August 2022

Newcastle United v Nottingham Forest (Sat, 15:00 BST)

    Nottingham Forest

Nottingham Forest have made 12 new signings after returning to the Premier League - and counting. Boss Steve Cooper had this to say on their squad overhaul this summer: "We knew it was going to be more of a change than normal. In an ideal world we would have liked to have carried on with big parts of the team from last season and just added where we think we really needed, but it was never going to be the case.

"We have no alternative than to make the number of changes we have had to make and are continuing to do so. Internally it’s not a surprise, it’s something we were ready for. It’s not always a straightforward process in bringing players in as we’re learning as we are going along. But we are all calm inside, we are very happy with what we have done so far."

  15. Fredericks & Rothwell out injured for Cherriespublished at 15:05 BST 4 August 2022

Bournemouth v Aston Villa (Sat, 15:00 BST)

    Bournemouth

Cheers Harry, you go enjoy a hard-earned rest and I'll begin with some team news from Bournemouth.

Scott Parker has revealed that new signings Ryan Fredericks and Joe Rothwell will miss their opener against Aston Villa due to injuries.

Parker has just addressed the media before the Cherries kick off their Premier League campaign this Saturday.

"The latest on Ryan is that he's [training] on the grass," said Bournemouth's head coach.

  16. Handover...published at 15:00 BST 4 August 2022

That's my shift done but Ben Collins is here to take you through the last remaining news conferences.

We're still to hear from Nottingham Forest, Bournemouth and Southampton.

I'll see you tomorrow for more Premier League build-up.

    Ben, it's all yours.

  17. Postpublished at 14:52 BST 4 August 2022

Tottenham v Southampton (Sat, 15:00 BST)

    Tottenham Hotspur

Conte on how happy he is at Spurs: "I have to be honest. From the first day when I arrived in Tottenham I was really happy because I always said that I found a club, a modern club with a great stadium and fantastic training ground. Everything that a coach aspires to find when you sign a contract.

"I said I want to build something important with this club because I like to win. I said it will be very important to match these two situations, to bring the club to fight for something important in every season.

"You know very well that every season only one wins the Premier League, the Champions League, the FA Cup and the Carabao Cup.

"To become a stable club in a good position. Other clubs want to do the same though so it will be very difficult."

  18. Postpublished at 14:46 BST 4 August 2022

Tottenham v Southampton (Sat, 15:00 BST)

    Tottenham Hotspur

Conte on what success would look like for Spurs this season: "[Laughing] Why not Premier League and the Champions League? My target and the club's target is to improve. It's the process we started seven months ago. If you get a place in the Champions League it doesn't mean you've achieved your target.

"My experience brings me to say we're going in the right direction. At the same time I know the club needed another step to be competitive with the top teams in Europe. For this reason we have to not be presumptuous or arrogant. We have to work, work, work to improve on the pitch and outside of the pitch to become a top club."

  19. Postpublished at 14:41 BST 4 August 2022

Tottenham v Southampton (Sat, 15:00 BST)

    Tottenham Hotspur

Conte on longevity in clubs and managers staying for a long time: "I think so [it is the best way to go]. If you are with the same manager for many years, you bring continuity and you continue ambition. It's the best situation for the club to improve and to grow season by season. The vision is one, it's not another vision with another manager. For sure to have a coach for many years you reduce the time because you give continuity to the work with the manager and the players. For me after seven months it's easier to work with the players. You know each other.

On his own record of short stays at clubs: "First of all I need to stay well in the club. I like always the honest. If you tell me one thing and then you have to respect this. I don't like the people who told me one thing and then during the season after one year or two changed it. If you tell me a good lie you don't have a lot of luck with me. I hate lying and liars."

  20. Postpublished at 14:36 BST 4 August 2022

Tottenham v Southampton (Sat, 15:00 BST)

    Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham boss Antonio Conte is next. He's been speaking about transfers: "For sure we are trying to do things with common sense. I know only this way. It's not simple. You have to try to not make mistakes, especially in the transfer window with the club. But I think we're doing good things.

"If you want to fight for important achievements, then you have to work and work to improve in every moment to improve the club."
