TheLastKingOfEngland: Looks like a good squad, Scotland are definitely improving, and were unlucky not to pick up more wins in the autumn internationals. I think they're a while away from winning the tournament, but should be challenging for a top half finish.

Obsen: Good squad. Scotland is going through a purple-patch regarding centres. Front row is an issue. Scotland really needs a fit Nel. Generally, the backs speak for themselves: a back three of Maitland, Seymour and Hogg. The back-row is where Vern Cotter needs to use all of his rugby experience. Some rich pickings to use, at 6, 7 and 8.

  12. Injury update ...published at 10:50

    Tom English
    BBC Sport Scotland at Murrayfield

Vern Cotter confirms that WP Nel is going for a scan on his neck later on today. It has to be said, he doesn't sound overly confident that Nel will be available. Cotter includes the uncapped Cornell du Preez ahead of Magnus Bradbury.

"He's a more seasoned and a more experienced player, Cornell. He's more physical in contact. Magnus has not started games that well. He's finished games well when the intensity has dropped but he needs to work on that."

  14. 'Push them a lot closer'published at 10:49

    Tom English

Vern Cotter: "The Oriam facility has been brilliant. This time last year we spent two weeks at St Andrews in wind and horizontal rain.

"Ireland have just beaten New Zealand and Australia, but if we get a bounce of the ball I'd like to think we can push them a lot closer than previously."

Vern Cotter says Scotland's aim is to win every game.

  18. Competition in midfield 'fierce'published at 10:30

    Tom English
    BBC Sport Scotland at Murrayfield

"There's a return for Jon Welsh, the Newcastle prop. Welsh has not played for Scotland since the storied World Cup loss to Australia in autumn 2015. There's also a reappearance for Matt Scott, who was left out for the autumn internationals despite playing wonderfully for his new club, Gloucester. Ben Toolis also makes it having not appeared since the Six Nations of 2015.

"The competition in Scotland's midfield is now fierce. This is probably - almost certainly - the best set of centres the country has ever had. Cotter has named five - Mark Bennett, Alex Dunbar, Huw Jones, Scott and Duncan Taylor, who is also back after injury ruled him out of the autumn.

"Alasdair Dickinson is left out because of injury - and that's a blow. Scotland could do with Dickinson's experience at loosehead. Cotter says that if Scotland can get their mindset right they can "push for wins" in every game."

  20. 'Berghan is a surprise'published at 10:28

    Tom English
    BBC Sport Scotland at Murrayfield

"Vern Cotter has named his squad for the Six Nations, a whopper with 37 players and some interesting stories. Simon Berghan, the Edinburgh prop, and Cornell du Perez, the now Scotland-qualified Edinburgh back-row, are the only uncapped players included.

"Berghan is a surprise. He makes it largely because of another injury worry about WP Nel.

"The South African only returned to playing last weekend after a long lay-off but now has another concern. He lasted only 27 minutes of his comeback. He'll get the results of a scan today.

"Scotland desperately need him fit and healthy again. Nel is a world class operator at tighthead..."
