Snow joke in April!

It may be a shock to the system to see snow so late in April, but it's not completely unheard of. Ian Thomas recounts the snow of April 1981 in Gloucestershire.

"A deep low tracked south east across Britain and rain on Saturday 25th turned to sleet and then snow by 9pm. Snow fell all night backed on with gale force north-easterly winds and lay one foot deep on the Cotswolds, eight inches deep at Dursley which is 300 feet above sea level and three to four inches deep in the Severn Vale. Parts of Devon and Wiltshire saw three to four inches and blizzard conditions were reported on Salisbury Plain. It was the deepest late April snow in the area since 1952."
