Properties evacuated for gas main repair work
BBCFour properties have been evacuated and three businesses closed "as a precaution" while work to investigate a town's gas network is carried out.
Gas distribution company SGN said the closure of Duke Street in Henley-on-Thames to traffic followed emergency repair work.
No date for the end of the work has been given, and the street remains open to pedestrians.
A spokesperson for SGN said engineers were carrying out the work quickly as possible and the company was sorry for any disruption.
"Duke Street remains temporarily closed to help keep everyone safe while this work continues," they said.
"Four nearby properties have been evacuated as a precaution, and we are providing assistance and alternative accommodation to the affected residents."
Alex Foster owns The Caversham Picture Framer, which has been forced to close, and said his business was missing out on the most important time of year.
"So we are potentially losing quite a significant amount of trade at the moment," he said.
"Christmas is the most important time of year for us. It's how we keep the lights on.
"We're not making any money at all and on the flip side of it I still have all my costs.
"We're hoping everyday that we're going to be able to come back in but at the moment we don't really have a guarantee when we'll be able to."
