Police investigate report of man carrying crossbow in Eyemouth

Police are investigating a report of a man seen carrying a crossbow in a fishing village in the Borders.

Officers were called out at about 09:40 on Monday after being told a group of young men - aged between 16 and 30 - had gathered in the Renton Terrace area of Eyemouth with one of them believed to have a weapon.

They were last seen on High Street but police carried out a full search and found no trace of them.

The man reported to be carrying the weapon has been described as white with short, dark hair and was wearing a T-shirt with orange markings and black trousers.

Insp Russell Copeland said: "There were no reports of any crossbow being fired or anyone injured but we are keen to trace this group and establish the exact circumstances.

"A number of inquiries are ongoing including checking CCTV from in and around the local area to identify those involved."
