A biker who crashed after he sped away from police at more than 100mph has been jailed.

Joshua Kirby, 35, came to the attention of officers after they saw him driving the wrong way around a roundabout in Broxtowe, Nottinghamshire, at about 22:20 BST on 31 August.

Nottinghamshire Police said he failed to stop and instead increased his speed before he misjudged a bend in Moorgreen and crashed into a tree.

Kirby, who suffered a fractured spine, broken ribs and a dislocated shoulder in the crash, was jailed for two years and eight months at Nottingham Crown Court on Friday.

He had previously pleaded guilty to dangerous driving, driving while disqualified and driving without insurance, and was also found to have breached a suspended sentence order.

Kirby, of Easegill Court in Top Valley, Nottingham, was banned from driving for five years and two months and must pass an extended driving retest before he is eligible to drive again.

PC Natalie Short said Kirby had "put everyone on the roads with him in danger".

"He suffered serious injuries as a result of his actions and it's fortunate he didn't cause any injury to others sharing the roads with him," she added.
