A cash machine was found abandoned on an M1 slip road after police were alerted to reports of a ram raid at a village shop.

Bedfordshire Police said officers were called to a convenience store in High Street, Toddington, at about 04:50 BST on Wednesday.

Officers said three men loaded the cash machine into a white van before abandoning both on the slip road leading to the northbound M1 at junction 12.

The group fled from the M1 in a BMW, while a yellow digger was left outside the shop.

Toddy's Shop, another business about 200m (656 ft) away from the convenience store, was also targeted in a ram raid in the early hours of 6 August.

Officers have appealed for anyone with information to contact them.
