An art installation featuring wartime-themed silhouettes has been unveiled in Grantham as part of the town's Remembrance commemorations.

The display outside the Guildhall Arts Centre includes wooden figures representing a World War One Tommy, a World War Two paratrooper, a Land Girl and a member of the Women's Royal Naval Service (Wrens).

A cascading display of poppies has also been installed as a tribute to those who served.

There will also be a military march in the town on 8 November, following a Remembrance Sunday service at St Wulfram's Church.

The poppy display, which is made up of hundreds of handmade poppies stitched onto military camouflage netting, was first installed in 2023.

Grantham Arts organised workshops and coordinated research into local military history by college students, who then painted the four distinctive wooden military figures.

The Wren silhouette carries the name of Grantham woman Joan Briggs, who served in the Navy in World War Two.

Elsewhere in the county, thousands of poppies were released from beneath the wings of Avro Lancaster Just Jane at the Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Centre to mark the start of the county's poppy appeal.

A service of remembrance is also scheduled to take place at the International Bomber Command Centre, near Lincoln, on Sunday 8 November.
