Fire service celebrates 'fantastic' station reopening
Surrey County CouncilResidents have been invited to celebrate the reopening of a town's fire station.
Reigate fire station on Croydon Road has been redeveloped with a new kitchen, gym and lounge for its crews, alongside bays for its fire engines.
A free community event, where locals can see the station and its fleet, is planned between 14:00 and 18:00 GMT on Friday.
Dan Quin, chief fire officer at Surrey Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS), said: "The open afternoon is a great opportunity to mark such a momentous occasion for the service and, importantly, have fun with our community."
Upgrades to the site in Reigate began in 2024 but SFRS previously said it had been delayed to "accommodate the extensive planning involved".
It moved its crews to another building on site while the work took place.
Surrey Fire MuseumSurrey County Council, which funded the project, said the works added space for South East Coast Ambulance Service to support "closer working".
An "electric and solar-powered approach" has been taken to help meet net zero targets, it said.
Quin added: "We can't wait to welcome people to the new Reigate fire station and celebrate this milestone with them.
"This is a fantastic new base for our crews and an important investment in the safety of Surrey people."
