Man admits bank holiday stabbing on beach that left teen with amputated leg
WalesOnlineA man has admitted stabbing a 17-year-old boy in an "unprovoked" attack which led to the teenager having his leg amputated.
Newport Crown Court heard the boy, who cannot be named because of his age, was visiting the beach with a group of friends in May 2026, when the incident happened during a bank holiday trip to Barry Island.
Idris Ahmed, from Riverside in Cardiff, previously denied grievous bodily harm with intent and possessing a knife - but changed his plea to guilty on Tuesday.
Ahmed, 19, attacked the teenager "without warning" after the victim acted "as a peacemaker" between the group Ahmed was socialising with and those in his own party. Ahmed is expected to be sentenced on 27 November.
The 17-year-old victim previously told the jury he had bled heavily, and fallen in and out of consciousness immediately after the stabbing.
He was airlifted to hospital where he underwent four surgeries, but despite several transfusions, oxygen was not flowing properly to the leg.
The jury heard it was determined the teenager needed a through-knee amputation, removing the lower half of his leg.

Ahmed then fled the scene and discarded the knife close to a nearby building, an act seen by an eyewitness who later identified the 19-year-old in an identity parade.
Before he threw the object Ahmed was heard saying: "I need to dash this."
He was also captured fleeing the scene by a woman who was taking selfies on the beach with her partner.
The court heard Ahmed had no previous convictions.
Discharging the jury, His Honour Judge described grievous bodily harm with intent as a "very, very serious offence".
He said pre-sentencing reports would determine how long Ahmed would have to spend in a young offenders institution.
