Clearing waste site 'remains goal' after court order
Chris CoghlanClearing an unauthorised waste site "remains the goal" after Environment Agency action to prevent further dumping, an MP has said.
Surrey County Council and the agency have been working to try to clear the Dorking West Station Yard site, after concerns were raised about waste and an enforcement notice was issued in May.
Dorking MP Chris Coghlan said he was "pleased to hear there's been progress", and hoped the site could soon be cleared.
Surrey Recycling Services Limited, the company which was previously served with the enforcement notice, was approached for comment.
Coghlan said: "I have been calling for it to be cleared for some time, and I hope the Environment Agency and Surrey County Council will move quickly using the powers available to them.
"Clearance remains the goal and I will continue to work with the Environment Agency and Surrey County Council to get the waste removed and make the site safe."
A Restriction Order was granted by Staines Magistrates' Court on 19 October, which the BBC understands will run for six months until April 2027.
Coghlan said on social media that the order banned the importation of further waste on to the site, and that breaching the order was a criminal offence.
The Environment Agency revoked an environmental permit for the site on 13 April and ordered all waste to be removed by 15 May, but the site remains in place.
Nearby residents have previously complained about the "mountain of rubbish", and raised worries about noise and air pollution and the potential impact on local water supplies.
