Former Cumbria school staff charged with child assault

Six former staff members at a residential school have been charged with assault and child cruelty.

The offences are alleged to have taken place at the former Witherslack Hall School near Grange-over-Sands, between 1973 and 1992.

The six, aged between 61 and 77, will appear before magistrates on 3 January.

Cumbria Police said the charges were part of Operation Tweed - an ongoing investigation into historic abuse and neglect at residential schools.
