Two 13-year-old boys have been arrested after a fire at a derelict warehouse spread to a house and led to properties being evacuated.

The blaze broke out in Talbot Street in Burnley on Tuesday evening.

Lancashire Police said nobody was injured but significant damage was caused to the home and warehouse.

The teenagers, from Burnley, have been held on suspicion of arson and remain in custody, a spokesman for the force added.

Both police and the fire service have appealed for witnesses or anybody with footage or information to come forward.

Det Sgt Dave Bowler said he was taking the matter "extremely seriously."

"This fire could have easily resulted in somebody being injured or even killed," he said.

"While we are at the early stages of our investigation, we are currently treating it as suspected arson.

"Although we have made two arrests our investigation is very much ongoing and we would ask anyone who saw anybody acting suspiciously in the area yesterday afternoon to contact police."
