Busy Leicester flyover to close overnight for major repairs
GoogleOne of Leicester's busiest flyovers will close for five nights for essential repairs.
New bearings need to be installed on the supports at each end of the Redhill Flyover, at Red Hill Circle, which connects the A6, A563 and A46.
The ends of the bridge will need to be lifted for the bearings to be fitted.
The flyover will close from 21:00 to 05:00, from 24 to 25 November, 19 to 20 December, as well as three overnight closures from 9 to 12 January.
All traffic will be diverted on to Red Hill Circle on the dates of the overnight closures, but the flyover will remain open to traffic at all other times while the work, costing £334,000, is carried out over a 10-week period.
As well as replacing the bearings, which have seized up, workers from Leicester City Council will also replace bridge joints and a damaged lamp column, and repair any damage to parapets.
'Essential maintenance'
Some temporary parking and loading restrictions may also be put in place on nearby roads "to enable traffic to continue moving and for materials to be delivered".
Councillor Adam Clarke, deputy city mayor for climate, economy and culture, said: "The Redhill Flyover is an extremely busy part of Leicester's road network connecting the A6, A563 and A46, and therefore needs to be able to handle thousands of cars, lorries and buses every single day.
"The bridge needs this essential maintenance to ensure it remains safe to meet modern transport demands for many more years to come."
