Two teenage boys have been jailed for stabbing a man in an unprovoked attack.

The boys, aged 15 and 16, who cannot be named for legal reasons, were found guilty of wounding with intent in a trial at Taunton Crown Court.

The man was stabbed in the chest and shoulder on Colin Road in Taunton, on 2 February. He was treated in hospital and the incident has had a long-term impact on him, police said.

The boys have both been given prison sentences of two-and-a-half years.

Investigating officer Kerry Stone said the victim, who is in his 30s, had been fortunate not to have suffered more serious injuries.

"This unprovoked attack left the victim terrified and he now avoids walking home alone at night.

"This sentence sends a clear message: do not carry knives," she added.

The teenagers were sentenced on 3 November.
