Shoreham disorder: Fifteen held after youths confront police
BBCFifteen people have been arrested after a large group of young people "became aggressive" towards officers.
They were detained after police got reports of a man damaging a car in Shoreham, at 22:30 BST on Saturday.
Extra police units were then sent to High Street and Shoreham Footbridge as they tried to arrest him and a group of youths "descended on the area".
The arrests were for offences including assaulting an emergency worker and violent disorder.
Of the 15 people arrested, 13 were aged between 14 and 17 years old, Sussex Police said.
Ch Insp Nick Bowman said: "This behaviour, and the violence towards police officers going about their duty, is totally unacceptable.
"Fortunately, our officers did not suffer any serious injuries in the incident, but we will not tolerate attacks such as this on emergency workers.
"Everyone, including parents and guardians, has a responsibility to ensure children and young people are following the current guidelines, to prevent the spread of coronavirus."
Police have issued a Section 34 dispersal order preventing large groups from congregating in the centre of the West Sussex town until midnight on Monday.
Any witnesses or those with mobile phone footage are being asked to contact Sussex Police.
