Woman dies in car and lorry crash on A9 near Aviemore
JASPERIMAGEA 58-year-old woman has died following a head-on crash between her car and a lorry on the A9 near Aviemore.
The collision happened about two miles south of the village at 18:45 on Tuesday.
The road was closed for about seven hours while police carried out an investigation.
It is the third crash in less than two weeks involving lorries and cars on the Badenoch and Strathspey section of the A9 trunk road.
Last week, a man died when his car was in collision with an HGV near the Lynwilg junction at Aviemore.
Highlands and Islands Labour MSP David Stewart said that, while the cause of the accidents was not clear, he would ask Transport Scotland officials to investigate whether road signage was clear enough in the area.
The stretch of road is near to a newly-built section of dual carriageway.
A Transport Scotland spokesman said: "Our sympathies are with those involved in the recent A9 incidents, and with their family and friends.
"As police investigations are ongoing it would be inappropriate for to comment further at this time, however, we are liaising with Police Scotland to obtain more detailed information on these accidents."
