Hecklers interrupt council meeting in speed bump row

A council leader threatened to call security when a heckler interrupted a meeting after a debate about speed bumps.

Peterborough City Council's cabinet session on Tuesday was brought to an abrupt break after several men began raising their voices.

Among them was a resident, who had just presented a petition calling for speed bumps to be installed on Bourges Boulevard in the city, who later claimed he had been blocked by a councillor on social media.

Labour leader Shabina Qayyum told them their actions were inappropriate and threatened to call the police if it happened again.

A spokesperson for the authority said one man left the meeting of his own accord and that nobody had been banned from the council offices.
